7 km of Dunes
The Regional Natural Park of the Coastal Dunes

Let your gaze linger on the uninterrupted, sinuous curves of the sand dunes for a full 7 km: you are in the Regional Natural Park of the Coastal Dunes that stretches from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo, in the northern part of the coast of the municipality of Ostuni, up to the municipality of Fasano.
These 7 kilometers are not just sand and sea. The dunes intertwine with the Mediterranean scrub and are home to a vibrant ecosystem, a sanctuary for wonderful plant species, capable of thriving in a completely particular environment like this one. You can breathe in the intense scents of juniper and holm oaks.
Rugged and Salty Nature
This area, in fact, is not only a Regional Natural Reserve but has also been declared a Zone of International Importance by the European Community.
The landscape within the park presents surprising variations. You can explore the stark appearance of the "lame," karstic phenomena characteristic of the Murge plateau, carved by water into the limestone rock; and then move on to the humid area of the Morelli River, with brackish water ponds among the dunes. Aquaculture has been practiced in these areas since at least the 16th century.
Archaeology Among the Dunes
If you have a knack for archaeology, you should know that a dolmen is also visible here: the Dolmen of Montalbano, dating back to around the 2nd millennium BC. Numerous finds speak of an ancient past in this area, most of which are exhibited at the Museum of Preclassical Civilizations of Southern Murgia.
